EMDR and ART therapies

What is EMDR therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.

What is ART therapy?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) resents the brain after trauma has altered it.

As the body and brain try to prevent further injury, some parts of the brain go into overdrive while others shut down. The brain’s threat detection center, the amygdala, is overactive, while the future planning center, the pre-frontal cortex, is less active. Using bi-lateral eye movements, somatic experiencing, symboloc imagery, desensitization and rescripting, ART helps to bring safety back to the brain and the body.
